Welcome to the Copywriter's Roundtable Network...

Copywriters, marketers, and product managers of every type... you're welcome here. What's the idea? Very simple. If you work in, around, or want to be part of the wide, wide world of "salesmanship in print" (or online, on the radio, or the back of a cereal box), come here to talk about it and meet others in the field. This is a free "hub" for hobnobbing about the trade. A kind of professional pitstop on your way to your next deadline.

How you use it is mostly up to you. Find writers, post samples of your work and pitch your writing services, share tips, techniques, and your working or even personal profile. If you want to date fellow copywriters -- daring as you might be -- go right ahead. It's all up to you.

Just a couple quick requests...

First, let's keep it professional. So, for instance, in the video and photo sections, post things that have to do with our trade and nothing else (sometimes even less than what's relevant, where questions of good taste apply -- if you wouldn't send it to your mom in an email, avoid the temptation to post it here).

Second, spread the word. The more the merrier, on this site. And if you want to go deeper down the rabbithole, you might also try my long-running ezine of the same name, "The Copywriter's Roundtable" (also free). I've been writing it faithfully every week for the last six or so years. We've got a few thousand readers in 30 or so countries around the world. It's about copy, from 'how to' to career advice, tips on new trends, and plenty of just plain personal musings which -- after 15 years of doing this -- I feel like sharing.

For the ezine, you'll find a VERY simple signup site here: http://www.jackforde.com.

Hope you enjoy the network!

- JF

H E L P !!!!! Do you know where the markets for these various types of commercial art are?

What markets are there for:
1. Video game art?
2. Commercial or editorial illustrations?
3. Pin up artwork?
4. Animation cells?
5. Comic book art?

Who are the dealers, galleries, patrons, or collectors for these items that anyone has ever heard of, come across, or done any business with?

Myself and several others own large collections of the artwork from famous contemporary artists who work in all of the above aforementioned artistic areas.

• We would be interested in selling our artwork

making the mark

My words may get caught up in the situation though not entirely, therefore sometimes becomes misleading. My thoughts and judgments may vary due to experiences. I may have not made my mark, but in the commotion of efforts, I hope to apply sufficient ideas so as to be with experienced scholars whoever they may be. It’s just a matter of time till I make good. And in the end it’s all good. Cheers to the roundtable & fruit juices are on the house!

It's why we stay alive

We don’t read and write poetry because it’s cute. We read and write poetry because we are members of the human race. And the human race is filled with passion. And medicine, law, business and engineering – these are noble pursuits and necessary to sustain life. But poetry, beauty, romance, love – these are what we stay alive for.

Catalogs: The Copywriter's Hidden Gold Mine

Let’s face it, folks. Our secret is out.

The once under-the-radar career of direct response copywriting is now a full-fledged phenomenon, with more and more fresh-faced copywriters
entering the marketplace daily. And that means more competition for
those plum clients, and a little smaller pie for the rest of us.

But not to worry. Because there’s a hidden marketplace out there that few copywriters are aware

Helping Each Other

Just out of curiosity, well that isn't exactly true, I just want to know and maybe even take advantage of or help someone else at some point. Are you aware of any situations here at The Copywriter's Roundtable where a member helped another member out with either work or mentoring?

Would you also tell me about it. I really like networking sites that network and work.

Your Niche

Mandy asked what our niches were. I am curious as to what your styles are and what feedback you have gotten in regards to it.

I am a conversationalist, (as I call it) I talk to my readers as though they were sitting in front of me.

I have been told that I do it too much and that I use to many real life examples in my how-to work. For example; I wrote an eBook on overcoming a lack of self confidence called 'Head Held High'. Although it is said that I am too wordy it has also bee… Continue

Releasing the power of knowledge

Understanding the power of knowledge...I always assumed that if I possessed knowledge I would have power. But, now I find that I was decieved. It is only when knowledge is applied

is the power released. We all have choices to make in Life - it is only when action is taken

that power is released....I believe in you,,,Go for it.

My first Post

This is my first post here on The Copywriter's Roundtable.

For the most part I want to blog here about my experiences as a freelance writer and post some of my articles and links. But, I thought that for a first post I would share this humorous post about emails that I receive on profile pages and the strange ways of men. I hope that you enjoy it.

100 Ways to Kill a Concept: Why Most Ideas Get Shot Down

by Michael Iva, world renown new product launch specialist

Everyone has ideas. “Cogito Ergo Sum.” (I think, therefore I am.) ~Rene Descartes~ But then what?

For some, it is enough to have the idea. But most people aren’t satisfied by the mere act of thinking. Instead, they want to put those ideas to work. So, next they need to persuade someone else to embrace their newfound ideas in order for those ideas to be accepted and… Continue

how I write copy that works visually

I work in the marketing department of a large financial services company and I often write statement inserts, newsletters, ads and other direct mail pieces that have some sort of photo or graphic element.

My headlines and copy are given to a designer to lay out. It's important that copy and design work hand in hand and that the designer can do something creatively with headlines. For instance, I could say "Save Time and money with X,Y and Z". But this leaves the designer stumped as far as what… Continue

When I am Copyeditor General

After many, many hours (okay, years) of getting riled up about poor use of language, typos in menus, grammatically incorrect signage, I've started a blog/therapeutic ranting space called When I am Copyeditor General.

Why the title?

I've always thought there should be a federally appointed guardian of language; perhaps not with the zeal of the Académie française, but certainly spirited enough to call out organization
