Copywriter's Roundtable Network

"'Whom are you?' he asked, for he had attended business college." - George Ade

Hi all! It would be good to know what everyone's copywriting specialty is. That way if one of us needs some input or wants to refer work we can help each other out.

If you agree use this thread to post your mad skillz!

Congratulations on getting your novel published! I am rewriting my novel for the 30th time too. I've had some positive feedback and that keeps me going. Meanwhile, I left the incredible $25 an article newspaper writing job for the only slightly higher paying magazine article writing effort. A few of us struggling writers have formed a freelance writers club where we are exchanging ideas. Reselling our articles looks promising. One of the group used her contacts to resell her article for 10 times her original pay. We are scouring "The Best of the Magazine Markets for Writers" resource. I'm considering buying Bob Bly's ebook on writing for trade journals. Has anyone tried that?

Hi

I am a student. Over the years I have prepared a lot of Spec Ads for print and TV. I could do just about anything that is required for a copywriter but I don't have any work done to showcase it. So I guess I specialize in copywriting for TV and print.

Hi all ... My specialty has been largely web copy for healthcare, alternative health, and wellness. But I've also done copy for construction, real estate, ... even some architects proposals for state projects as well (referring back to "... anything that puts food on the table."). It seems you never know where you might find work.

Regards,
Michael

Thanks for the answers so far! Realized I did not post my specialties, so here goes...

I work in branding (missions, values, elevator pitches), web copy, media kits, proposals, and all kinds of editing. One of the things I like the most about copywriting is that once you get good in one area you can usually transfer those skills to other forms of copywriting. The big exception though is technical writing, which I firmly believe a person should be "oficially educated" in to do properly.

best,
Mandy

I actually just revised my 'niche' area this weekend, and this is what I've come up with: I specialize in writing copy for the BtoC market, specifically in the not for profit, tourism, and small business sector. My favourite thing to do is media kits - press releases, feature articles, white papers, web content etc. I also get a sadistic form of pleasure out of editing; give me a red pen and the ability to cut and paste, and I'm in copywriter heaven!

I mostly do BtoC copywriting, with a focus on the web and SEO content. I also do a lot "media package" type work, primarily press releases. I also write copy for blogs and other social media.

Hi there,

I'm new to this copywriting thing but I'm working hard to specialize in nonprofit, catalog, and B2B markets. But honestly right now, I'll take paying gig (as long it's not illegal).

Smiles to all.

I write mainly SEO text, basic web copy, and optmized press releases. I started writing other offline copy like direct mail and the like, but now my 9-5 is entirely web. It's certainly an interesting evolution from print to web.

I write mainly long-copy promos (16, 24, or 36 pages) for financial newsletters, trading services, and other things along those lines. I've also written for health, non-profit, and others. And sometimes write editorial of different stripes, when the mood strikes. I'd love to say that I specialize in SEO or the like, but honestly... I just write the copy and it goes online and in print, depending on how well it works. Someone else handles the SEO aspect for me.

I prefer to work with web copy, newsletters, blogs and the like, but I also really love to brainstorm creative marketing ideas (guerilla marketing style stuff) for smaller businesses and solopreneurs.

I have to say, right now I'll do anything legal that puts food on the table, since I'm just starting out after shifting from a previous career, but I'm quickly realizing that I do not care much for dry, technical stuff like whitepapers (although no doubt a topic in my interest range would be fun), press releases, financial stuff and so on. I like to write stuff that requires more creativity and a snappier, edgier tone than most of those allow for.

Also, I'm an ideas person with a talent for cross-pollination of concepts and the like, so I love getting to work on projects that require a lot of creative brainstorming, off-the-wall ideas, finding ways of making new situations and technologies work for the client and so on.

Hi all- Notice a few familiar faces on this thread. Hi Soni :)

I'm actually not a copywriter but am always looking to partner up with such professionals. And of course, I'd like to make myself available to other copywriters who may need my services. I run Sachi Studio- a web design studio with an emphasis on;

-Content management systems,
-Blog design and blogging applications,
-local seo strategies (and yes, there is a difference SEO and local SEO strategies)
-with some mix of social media strategies.

I've had success with doubling client's income through some of my services above. See this case study.

I'll be releasing a report and guide called, Book 2.0, that will help book authors learn how to use the next generation of web publishing platforms (blogs, content management systems, ) to
a) increase book sales,
b) receive more exposure through the media,
c) build a community of readers and followers
